What is Your Theme Song?

When I first heard about theme songs, I was in high school watching Ally McBeal. If I remember correctly, the lead actress was motivated by the smooth crooning of R&B Legend Barry White. In fact, not only did she hear his music but she even had the benefit of a cameo by the star when she needed motivation.
Now, I can’t guarantee that your favorite artist will show up when you select your theme song (at least outside of your imagination) but there are a ton of benefits to embracing as your theme song- especially as we deal with the challenges of this Pandemic.
Music has had a therapeutic effect on us for centuries. Oftentimes music accompanies some of our favorite memories and experiences in life. Music also ignites the feel-good hormone in the brain and can stimulate positive memories and feelings similar to those that happen when you smell your favorite food or your grandmother’s Sunday perfume. Your theme song should motivate, inspire, and generally make you feel good, not just while you are listening but the effects should last even after the song has played.
So how can you find your own theme song?
Keep it simple. Thinking too much takes away from this activity. If you are struggling to identify a song consider the feeling that you are in need of most right now...is it hope? Inspiration to create a new revenue stream? Motivation to start your business?
Check out YouTube, Apple Music, or Spotify for inspiration. Take a look at your playlists to see what songs you have on heavy rotation and generally make you feel good. Think about the beat and the melody but also pay close attention to the WORDS.
If you can't narrow it down to one.. Cool. Just remember to play your theme song(s) frequently and loudly (as long as you don’t disrupt your neighbor’s Zoom meetings!)
My theme song, “Be Optimistic” - Sounds of Blackness, I play this song when I need to remember that the glass really is half full and ready to overflow…
